What is the technical definition of open interest in the context of the Augur reporting fee system?

Is open interest the same as the total amount of funds in escrow for all open Augur markets at a given point in time?

Open interest is the total amount of funds in escrow across all Augur markets (markets never technically close, though they become uninteresting after they are reported on). Anytime shares are created (this happens automatically anytime two people want to open opposing positions) open interest increases. Anytime shares are destroyed (this happens automatically when two parties want to close opposing positions or when the market is reported on and the winning party redeems their winnings) open interest decreases.
