If I accidentally sent REP to the ETH address of an exchange that does not support REP, is it lost forever?

I know what my accounts ETH address is and can see the REP as an ERC20 balance in that address. Is there a way to retrieve it short of the exchange deciding to start supporting REP as a trading pair?

Technically, the exchange which controls the private key for the Ethereum address you sent the REP to can access it at any time. Whether they are willing to exercise that control to refund your REP is a policy question not a technical one.

I suggest sending a support ticket to the exchange in question to request assistance. The more people that have experienced a similar issue and have requested help, the more likely it is that the exchange will take notice. The exchange does not need to list REP in order to help you retrieve it.
